« backFuture of Mobility – Flexibility instead of size and horsepower
The automotive industry has to kill two birds with one stone. Driving a car should be a fun experience. At the same time, car manufacturers are increasingly faced with political environmental guidelines. Alternative mobility concepts emerge and totally new opportunities for the respective companies open up on the mobility market.
In W&V Praxis, Dr. Kerstin Ullrich, trend research expert at GIM Heidelberg, Andreas Knie managing director at InnoZ and Jochen Pläcking, founding partner of Kleinundpläcking discussed how modern forms of mobility influence consumers’ everyday lives, and what developments automobile manufacturers and mobility service suppliers have to face in the near future.
The three experts agreed that the significance of a car as a prestigious consumer good is decreasing. Although cars still play an important role within the mobility mix, and are still a status symbol for many, the meaning of status will change significantly. As Dr. Kerstin Ullrich points out, status indicators like size and horsepower will be replaced by understatement, intelligence, modernity and flexibility.
Most probably, traditional car manufacturers will soon face the necessity to develop a totally different brand philosophy in order to meet the new mobility requirements.
Some innovative mobility service supplier have already detected this trend and are trying to adapt their product portfolio to the emerging mobility needs of their customers.
W&V profoundly reported on this expert panel in their July issues W&V – Werben und Verkaufen, 27/2009) and W&V Media (7/2009).
